• Wetland filters (with added bio media/bioballs) are my go-to on large features.
• Back-flushable biological filters make routine care faster and cleaner.
• On smaller water features, upgrading the skimmer and biofilter is often enough—and yes, those can be added to an existing feature.

It sounds easy if you say it fast. It's not cheap. But taking a pond with no skimmer and a weak biofilter and upgrading both is night and day for maintenance and overall experience. You get what you pay for.

Will a better pump set up lower my costs?

Old pumps and improperly specced pumps are power hogs—loud, inefficient, and not the right tool for the job.
