A Private Relaxation Retreat
Project Cost?
After years of dedication, James and Shannon finally found their dream home—a stunning property perched high above the Tennessee River with a view of the Smoky Mountains that stretches for miles. Though close to the city, their sanctuary feels like a world apart, offering serenity and solitude.
With such a breathtaking location, they envisioned an outdoor space that would draw them outside every day. Their dream design included a spacious patio with a fire pit, covered seating for all-weather comfort, and lush gardens to indulge their passion for plants. But one essential piece was missing—a pond and waterfall to complete their personal retreat.
After following Modern Design Aquascaping Inc. on YouTube, James and Shannon knew exactly who could turn their dream into reality. The tranquil sound of running water and the beauty of an ecosystem pond were the perfect additions. A few months later, their vision was complete. Now, mornings start with coffee by the pond, evenings are spent grilling with family and friends, and every moment is enriched by the serene sights and sounds of their outdoor paradise. Life is good, and their dream has truly come to life.
Diving Into The Details
This ambitious project presented unique challenges due to the property’s steep slope, which began dropping away from the foundation of the home. The team had to ensure the pond was level with the patio for easy interaction while addressing the rapid decline in elevation. To achieve this, they brought in literal tons of boulders and topsoil, crafting a natural-looking “rock outcropping” to blend seamlessly into the surroundings while avoiding the harsh appearance of a retaining wall.
The finished project features:
- 15’ x 15’ Pond: Two feet deep and perfectly placed for interaction from the patio.
- 25’ Long Stream: Meandering with artistic precision to enhance the natural feel.
- Advanced Systems: Upgraded biological filtration, a jet system, and an in-pond pump to drive 8,000 gallons of water per hour between two waterfalls and the jets.
- Natural Aesthetics: Boulder accents up to 1,500 pounds, driftwood features, and thoughtfully selected aquatic and carnivorous plants.
- Lighting Magic: An underwater lighting system to bring the pond to life at night.
The result? A harmonious blend of artistry and engineering that transforms the steep slope into a natural paradise. James and Shannon were thrilled with their private retreat, a space where relaxation and connection happen effortlessly every day.
